What’s in the sky? It’s a bird? Is it Superman? No, it’s a plane. But not just any plane, a plane with valuable cargo and a nice man on board, David Tan. This Wisconsin man served in the military for 40 years and then dedicated his life to assisting homeless animals after retiring.
David started helping animals in 2012 and has since transported over 360 dogs, 23 cats, several goats, pigs, and even a bat named Bruce. The pilot works with Pilots N Paws. It is a non-profit organization that regularly provides him with four-legged passengers.
« People can sometimes be very cruel to their pets, especially in the south. Some people throw their pets away like old furniture or other trash. » – says David. David takes dogs and cats and just passes them on to new pilots. He also sometimes returns the animals to their new owners.
At this moment he appreciates the most in his work. « I hand them over to the families and say, ‘I hope you have a great time for the rest of your life, kiddo. I hope those people still love you.’ – said the pilot.
In many families the man brings their new pets to feel so grateful for the help they give him. Out of courtesy, he does not refuse the money. But never keep it for himself, giving it to charities instead.
