« I approached the enclosure and suddenly I saw a small paw reach out towards me. »- Jacqueline recalls. Austin Pets Alive volunteers were shocked when they saw a seven-month-old puppy named Donut reach out to Jacqueline.
He had been at the center for 11 days and had never had contact with a human during that time. « Donut » was rescued from the street and placed in the center, which quickly caught fire. The puppy came out of the fire unscathed.
But he soon contracted parvovirus and was sent to the intensive care unit at Austin Pets Alive. A week later the unit flooded and all the dogs had to be moved to outdoor enclosures. » – Jacqueline told The Dodo.
Despite his young age, Donut had been through a lot of unpleasant events and was therefore withdrawn. But when he saw Jacqueline, he decided to be brave and reach out to her. It touched the woman to the very depths of herself.
The same day she brought the dog home, she signed the paperwork to « adopt » him. Immediately after arriving at his new home, Donut went to the bathroom, then he ran around the yard at his leisure.
During the bath, the puppy snuggled up tenderly against its owner, as if to thank her for having rescued him. The first night he stayed on the lawn because he was afraid to sleep in the house, but then he got used to it and slept under the roof next to Jacqueline.
« Every time he lays his head on me, he sighs and then looks up with love and gratitude. » – said Jacqueline.
